What Does the Subaru Factory Warranty Cover?
Every eligible new Subaru includes a New Car Limited Warranty lasting three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Subject to the warranty’s terms and exclusions, Subaru will repair covered parts found to have defects in materials or workmanship under normal use.
Subaru also provides a Powertrain Limited Warranty lasting five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. It applies to covered components within major systems such as the engine, transmission, transaxle, differentials, and all-wheel-drive system.
Additional factory protection includes a five-year, unlimited-mile Rust Perforation Limited Warranty. This applies to qualifying original body sheet metal panels that rust completely through from the inside out. Surface corrosion, paint damage, scratches, and rust resulting from environmental exposure or vehicle damage are not considered rust perforation.
One particularly useful Subaru benefit is the Wear Item Limited Warranty. For eligible new models, certain wear items may be covered for three years or 36,000 miles. Depending on the vehicle, covered items can include brake pad or shoe linings, wiper blades, clutch linings, and keyless-entry transmitter batteries. Not every maintenance or wear-related component is covered.

The 2026 Solterra, 2026 Subaru Uncharted, and 2026 Subaru Trailseeker each include a High Voltage Battery and Electric Drive Unit Limited Warranty lasting eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is separate from their three-year/36,000-mile New Car Limited Warranty and five-year/60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty.
The upcoming 2027 Subaru Getaway will add an all-electric three-row SUV to the lineup. Subaru states that every Subaru EV sold in the United States comes with an eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty. Because final model-specific warranty details for the Getaway have not yet been published, shoppers should confirm its complete coverage when the vehicle becomes available.
What Is Not Typically Covered?
A factory warranty protects against covered defects; it is not a maintenance plan or automobile insurance policy. Routine maintenance, collision damage, misuse, unauthorized modifications, environmental damage, and failures caused by insufficient maintenance are generally excluded.
Although Subaru covers certain specified wear items, other components that wear through ordinary use may not be covered. Tires are typically covered separately by their manufacturer. Cosmetic damage, dents, scratches, and damage caused by road debris are also generally excluded.

Can I Extend My Subaru Protection?
Eligible owners may be able to purchase a Subaru Added Security plan for protection beyond the original factory-warranty period. Subaru Added Security is the only extended service agreement backed by Subaru of America.
Available plans may cover specified mechanical, electrical, and advanced technology systems. Benefits can also include towing, rental-car reimbursement, and trip-interruption assistance. Terms, mileage limits, deductibles, eligibility requirements, and exclusions vary.
