Forester and Crosstrek Named in Consumer Reports Top 10 Picks

Michael Hohl Subaru is proud to announce that the 2026 Forester and 2026 Crosstrek were named to the Consumer Reports 2026 Annual 10 Top Picks list. That is not Top 10 per category, that is Top 10 overall. For their Top Ten selections, they choose the model they consider the best in each category. So, it is worth noting that these models were their top picks in two very popular and competitive categories:
Crosstrek – Subcompact SUV
Forester – Compact SUV
Neither model is a stranger to this accolade. This is the third consecutive year the Crosstrek has been selected, which is every year of its current design. The Forester has earned this position for 13 consecutive years, which spans the fourth, fifth, and sixth generations of the nameplate. Clearly, Subaru produces vehicles that Consumer Reports, the famously objective publication, appreciates.
“Consumer Reports selects only a small number of vehicles each year for its Annual 10 Top Picks, and we’re honored again to have two Subaru vehicles make the list. The Subaru Forester and Subaru Crosstrek are affordable, capable, safe, and comfortable vehicles, and reflect our commitment to delivering exceptional value for customers,” said Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer, Subaru of America, Inc.
But there is more, much more. For years, Consumer Reports has dedicated its April issue to all things automotive, examining the new and used automotive markets from several angles. This year’s issue is a combined March-April issue, but the content remains the same, and Subaru models appear in several desirable places.

For instance, they have a listing of the “Best New Cars under $35,000”. Within this list, you will find:
Impreza – Small Cars
BRZ – Sports cars
Crosstrek – Subcompact SUVs
Forester – Compact SUVs
On the same page is a list of the Most and Least Reliable models based on CR’s consumer data. Topping the list is the Impreza, with the Crosstrek coming in a close third. Notably, no Subarus appeared on the least reliable list.
Crosstrek and Forester again appear as the best mileage for non-hybrid models in their respective categories. And both the Forester and Forester Hybrid appear in a list of the “10 Best Cars Made in the USA”.
Then there is a list of Most Comfortable Models divided by category, and here you will find the Crosstrek, Forester, Forester Hybrid, and the Ascent in the Mid-Size 3-Row SUV category. In a section on insurance, there is a list of six vehicles with the lowest insurance costs, and the Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek make up half the list. Unsurprisingly, when they list the top-scoring models in each category, the Crosstrek, Forester, Forester Hybrid, and the BRZ topped their categories, with the WRX not far behind.

Finally, in a bar chart titled “Brands that Make the Best Cars”, Subaru had the top ranking, followed by two luxury brands, BMW and Porsche. Worth noting is that at the bottom of the list, three of four brands have models that compete directly with Subarus.
Consumer Reports thoroughly tests the cars they rate. They also have extensive surveys to gauge ownership satisfaction and reliability issues, and consult other resources for insurance and resale information. They truly know automotive products, so when Subarus constantly come at or near the top of their lists, it says something. So, if you are interested in cars highly rated by the best experts in the field and live anywhere near Carson City, NV, visit Michael Hohl Subaru to see these top-rated models.
