​​Subaru Announces 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid​

On April 1st, Subaru announced the debut of the 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid.  It is the brand’s best offering for those who love the outdoors and want to do their part to preserve it. Michael Hohl Subaru provides more details about this anticipated model. 

In that past year, we have seen the new Forester Wilderness and the Forester Hybrid, but until now, there hasn’t been a model with both.  With up to 25% greater fuel economy, it is the most efficient model to wear the Wilderness badge.   

The 2027 Subaru Forester Wilderness Hybrid features longer coil springs and shock absorbers, boosting ground clearance from 8.7 inches in the Forester Hybrid to 9.3 inches. With a meticulously revised suspension, it’s tuned for a comfortable ride both on and off the road, thanks to added sound-absorbing materials and structural adhesives. Additionally, it features a lighter, stiffer chassis shared with all sixth-generation Forester models, enhancing overall performance. 

Like the conventional Forester Hybrid, the Forester Wilderness Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-liter flat-4-cylinder engine with Atkinson/Miller cycle valve timing, combined with two electric motors that draw power from a lithium-ion battery charged by regenerative braking and normal engine operation. The combined system produces 194 horsepower. The mechanical Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive remains in place and is accompanied by: 

• Upgraded off-road suspension 

• X-MODE® Dual Mode System with Hill Descent Control and settings for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud 

• Yokohama Geolandar® all-terrain tires 

Compared to the standard Forester Hybrid, the Forester Wilderness Hybrid offers improved off-road clearance: 

• Approach angle:  23.5 vs. 19.0 degrees 

• Breakover angle:  20.6 vs. 19.3 degrees 

• Departure angle:  25.5 vs. 24.6 degrees 

There is no loss of cargo space due to the hybrid drivetrain; thus, behind the rear seats, there is a 27.5-cubic-foot cargo area with an all-weather cargo mat.  The space expands to 69.0 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded.  If that isn’t enough space for your outdoor stuff, on the roof, there are ladder-type roof rails with an 800 static load capacity for a roof tent.  

Inside, you will find Wilderness gray-textured StarTex seating surfaces that are water-resistant and easy to clean. Up front, the 11.6-inch Multimedia System with Navigation includes wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. The 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster can be configured to taste, and Apple Maps integration is standard. A Harman Kardon® Speaker System with 11 speakers and a 576-watt equivalent amplifier is also included. 

Those who have been waiting for this model will need to wait a little longer, as the 2027 Forester Wilderness Hybrid is not expected to arrive until fall 2026.
