The new generation hybrid driveline is now available under the hood of the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek. It adds more power, along with improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions overall. Recently, several media outlets wrote and created videos about the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid. U.S. News and World Report and The Drive were among the most glowing reviews of our new small hybrid SUV.
Available in Sport and Limited trim levels, the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid is powered by a combination of a 2.5-liter BOXER engine and two electric motors. This driveline yields a net of 194 horsepower. Rounding out the driveline is the Lineartronic continuously variable transmission and the Symmetrical all-wheel drive. The electric motor is fed through a 1.1-kilowatt-hour battery pack located underneath the cargo area. It also yields great fuel economy. The Environmental Protection Agency rates the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid to achieve 36 MPG in the city and on the highway.
As U.S. News and World Report states, the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid is “a Swiss Army Knife of talents, the Crosstrek was already roomy, safe, practical, and rugged. With its new hybrid powertrain, it’s quieter, faster, more fun to drive on pavement, and far more fuel efficient.”
The 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid shares the same level of equipment as its gasoline-powered counterparts. The only exterior difference between a Sport and a Sport Hybrid is the additional badges on the liftgate and the front doors. The equipment list for the Sport and Limited Hybrid includes a new 12.3-inch fully configurable digital instrument cluster, the 11.6-inch multimedia navigation system touchscreen, and the EyeSight Driver Assist technology. An exclusive to the Limited Hybrid is an upgrade to the Harman Kardon premium audio system.
As for the driving experience, U.S. News and World Report states, “from the moment you put it in drive, the Crosstrek Hybrid feels quicker than the standard gas model. The electric motor gives it plenty of torque off the line for an SUV like this.” They added that it “has extra sound deadening, and it feels altogether more refined.”
The Drive adds that the “Crosstrek Hybrid feels…better in almost every way and metric. Even with the same 8.7 inches of ground clearance and nearly identical MacPherson front and double wishbone rear suspension, the Crosstrek Hybrid felt solidly and evenly connected to the pavement. Off pavement, it negotiated trails at speeds I wouldn’t dare in other small crossovers.”
In conclusion, The Drive summed it up by saying “the Crosstrek Hybrid is a better Crosstrek, and among other small crossovers, it encourages you to dream big.”
