Several Subaru models are built in the US. Specifically, the Outback, Impreza, and Ascent are all built at our Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) plant in Lafayette, Indiana. Everything else is imported from overseas. While the logistics of how a vehicle arrives in our inventory may be of limited interest to the average Subaru owner or shopper, Michael Hohl Subaru is pleased to announce that Subaru has extended its long-standing relationship with the Port of Vancouver, USA, to continue serving as Subaru’s primary port for imported models.

Subaru has been a tenant at the Vancouver port since 1993, creating numerous jobs related to vehicle unloading and using the port as a hub to process and ship vehicles across North America. Subaru of America (SOA) currently leases approximately 40 acres at the port, with the lease originally scheduled to expire in 2030. The new agreement extends the SOA and Port of Vancouver partnership through 2040.
“This partnership has endured through various market shifts for more than 30 years, and we’re so pleased the Port of Vancouver USA-Subaru connection is now solidified through 2040,” said Julianna Marler, port CEO. “These types of strong agreements not only create and sustain local jobs, they serve as anchors for long-term economic opportunities in our region.”

Vancouver is not the sole entry point for Subaru into the United States. However, it remains the busiest. Vehicles shipped from Japan are unloaded at this port and managed by long-term partners within SOA’s leased facilities. Accessories are installed, and each vehicle is inspected to meet Subaru’s quality standards. After import and processing, the vehicles are transported by rail and truck to over 640 dealerships across the US and more than 90 dealers in Canada.
“This enduring collaboration, built on mutual trust since 1993, supports local jobs and positions Subaru for future growth, as well as innovation with logistics operations that continue to meet our evolving business environment,” said Lisa Quan, Vice President - Vehicle Planning & Logistics, Subaru of America, Inc.

Again, how Subaru models arrive in Carson City may be of little concern to you, but Michael Hohl Subaru is reassured knowing there will continue to be a clear path for popular models like the Forester and Crosstrek, as well as specialty models like the BRZ, WRX, and Solterra, to arrive in our inventory and be available for you and all our customers.
