Buyers deserve good options when it comes to non-crossovers. While sport utilities are all the rage, Subaru still believes small cars hold a great purpose for some buyers. That is evident with the 2026 Impreza RS. In a recent review by Byron Hurd for The Drive, the hatchback was lauded as an “honest” car with Byron saying, “... the Impreza does enough things right that my few quibbles wouldn’t stop me from recommending it to an interested buyer.”
Plenty of Power and Torque
With its 2.5-liter Boxer engine, the 2026 Impreza RS delivers 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, a significant jump of 28 horsepower and 33 lb-ft of torque over the Impreza Sport trim level. This, along with its smart CVT gearbox and Subaru Symmetrical all-wheel drive, helps the RS get from 0-60 mph in just 7.8 seconds according to Car and Driver. The RS has a special feature that allows drivers to use steering wheel-mounted paddles to work the CVT like an 8-speed automatic. This gives enthusiast drivers the ability to have more control during spirited driving.
Pricing and Features
For just $30,690, the Impreza RS fits nicely into many new car budgets without compromising safety and technology. Standard on all models is an 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A six-speaker sound system is standard, with the option of a 10-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system with 432 watts. The driver and front passenger will appreciate the wireless phone charger, and there is a mix of both USB-A and Type-C ports for all to keep devices topped up.
A Great Gauge Cluster
When driving the Impreza RS, you will notice the colorful 4.2-inch LCD gauge cluster display, which offers all the pertinent driving information you’ll need. The SI-DRIVE system enables you to adjust the vehicle's driver settings on the fly to optimize your driving experience.

Standard LED Lighting
The exterior of the Impreza wows with standard LED headlights that are steering-responsive, along with LED taillights.
Excellent Fuel Economy
Although the RS is designed to be the sporty hatchback, the EPA reports that the fun hatchback will achieve 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, resulting in a combined average of 29 mpg. That’s only one less mile per gallon for each driving cycle than the Sport trim with less power and torque.
Safety Comes Standard
As with all Subaru vehicles, safety is most important. The Impreza RS comes standard with the award-winning EyeSight Driver Assistance Technology that includes Emergency Lane Keep Assist, Blind-Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Automatic Emergency Steering.
