The Differences Between The Subaru Trailseeker and Uncharted

Subaru has released two new all-electric vehicles debuting in 2026 called the Trailseeker and the Uncharted. Both vehicles will fit in nicely with the already popular and well-appreciated Solterra EV. Both new EVs will start around $40,000, which is similar to the Solterra. But what are the differences between the two new EVs and their already established sibling? Let’s take a look.

Meet The 2026 Subaru Uncharted

The 2026 Subaru Uncharted will be the only front-wheel drive Subaru for sale when it debuts this year; however, that’s not the whole story. Starting at $36,445, the Uncharted will be available in three trim levels: Premium FWD, Sport, and GT. The Sport and GT trims will get the venerable Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, while the Premium gets FWD, as mentioned. Each model includes Snow and Eco driving modes. Subaru says the Uncharted has 8.3 inches of ground clearance, which is already more than most gas-powered crossovers that pretend they can go off-road. Being the lowest-cost entry into the Subaru EV world does not mean it has the fewest features, though.

Power, Charging, and Range

The Uncharted features a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery with a preconditioning system that warms the battery system before charging begins in cold climates. The vehicle charges at up to 150 kW and has an 11-kW onboard charger for use with a Level 2 charger at home.

Trim Levels

Buyers can opt for the Premium FWD, which offers 221 horsepower and 300 miles of range, while stepping up to the Sport and GT gives them the X-MODE Dual-Mode System and dual motors that output 338 horsepower, with 285 and 270 miles of range, respectively.

Introducing the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker is a slightly different EV from the Uncharted as it features all-wheel drive as standard, as well as 375 horsepower that propels it to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, or the fastest of all current Subaru models available in the United States. When properly equipped, the Trailseeker can tow up to 3,500 lbs., and the roof has a static load capacity of 700 lbs. Behind the rear seats will be 31.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which expands to 74 cu.ft. when the rear seats are folded.

Power, Range, and Pricing

Buyers will have a choice of three trim levels: Premium, Limited, and Touring. All models share the same 74.7-kWh battery pack as the Uncharted, as well as the same 150 kW charging speed. All models have an estimated range of 280 miles between charges. Pricing starts at $41,445 and includes plenty of standard tech and safety features. Each trim level also gets the excellent X-MODE Dual-Mode System and Downhill Assist Control as standard. X-MODE allows drivers to dial in the type of terrain the Trailseeker is driving on: Snow/Dirt or Deep Snow/Mud.

Standard Features on Both Vehicles

Standard on both the Uncharted and the Trailseeker is the Subaru Multimedia System with a 14-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. LED headlights, Dual front and rear USB-C charging ports, a 10-way power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a power rear liftgate, and a 7-inch digital gauge cluster display are all standard. An All-Weather Package with heated front seats, heated and power side mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer is also standard equipment.

Excellent Safety Technology

No Subaru would be a Subaru, though, without some of the best and most advanced safety features on the market. With the award-winning Subaru EyeSight Driver Assistance Technology, both the Uncharted and Trailseeker come standard with Pre-Collision Braking, Lane Departure Alert, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control, and Emergency Steering. The Trailseeker also comes standard with Front Cross Traffic Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, and Traffic Jam Assist; however, these are standard on the Uncharted Sport trim level.
